Cristiano Ronaldo's excuse for not attending the Ballon d'Or ceremony
Goal say the Portuguese forward has another event to attend on Monday
Once again, Cristiano Ronaldo will not attend the Ballon d'Or ceremony, this time in Paris on Monday. The Juventus forward's excuse, according to Goal, is that he will instead go to the Gran Gala of Calcio, an event that practically runs in parallel to the one taking place in the French capital. He will be named MVP for last season in Serie A and could win other prizes, too.
On Sunday, the standings for the Ballon d'Or were leaked on social media. Barcelona star Lionel Messi was revealed as the winner, ahead of Liverpool duo Van Dijk and Salah. Ronaldo was only fourth. If that is confirmed, it would be the first time since 2010 that the Portugal international has not made the top three. In that year, Messi, Iniesta and Xavi shared the podium on a historic night for Barça.

Ronaldo, therefore, prefers to prioritise the event where he is certain to pick up a prize. The Italian football gala will take place in Milan, with awards for Team of the Year (men's and women's), best coach, referee, goal and young player.
Ronaldo is nominated for best goal and will also be in the Serie A Team of the Year. He is also set to be named as MVP for his first season in the Italian top flight after joining Juve from Real Madrid.
