Antoine Griezmann, La Liga's best player this season

As Diego Simeone said: "Griezmann is one of the most important players in our squad". The improvement of the Rojiblancos player is indisputable, but even more so seeing the results of Atletico Madrid in the last few months of competition in which they have become a winning machine.

With 32 points out of a possible 39 (82%), 'Cholo' Simeone's side have become the best team in the second half of the La Liga season after losing just one game to Barça and drawing only two, against Getafe and Real Madrid. A large part of this success is thanks to Antoine Griezmann who, as well as being the most decisive player for them, is currently the footballer who has generated the most goals in the entire domestic competition. 

The numbers don't lie: in 33 games played, 'Grizzi' has been involved in a total of 26 goals. This figure surpasses that of FC Barcelona attacker Robert Lewandowski, who is hot on his heels, having scored 19 goals and provided 6 assists for a total of 25 goals. Further back, the podium is completed by Real Madrid strikers Benzema and Vinicius, both of whom have contributed to 20 goals.

Looking back at the end of the year, Antoine Griezmann's numbers have even more merit, if that's even possible. Let's remember that the French player started the first part of the season playing less than 45 minutes per game. The reason for this was a clause that FC Barcelona put in the player's loan deal with Atletico Madrid: if the French striker played at least half a game in half of the matches in which he was available, the 40m purchase option of Atletico Madrid became obligatory.

The France international, with the World Cup just around the corner, was patient enough to hold out and wait for the clubs to come to an agreement, something that happened at the end of the season and which benefited him for the big event in Qatar. 

Antoine's definitive transfer to Atlético was sealed for a total of 18 million + 2 million in variables. From that moment on, the Argentine coach was able to use one of his indisputable players properly. So much so that, with five games to go, Griezmann has 13 goals and 13 assists, making him the most decisive player in the entire competition.
